Lovely location on the river, close to Sauble Falls
The house is in a great location, right on the river with its own dock. It’s a 10 minute drive into town which was really very enjoyable, taking the beach road. You have access to 3 kayaks, a row boat and a paddle wheel boat. We enjoyed using all of these. Our kayak down to the lake was a particular highlight. We cooked 3 dinners and 2 breakfasts in the kitchen, it had everything we needed. Angie was easy to communicate with and access was very straight forward. The house needs some attention though, the cupboards and drawers were cluttered and disorganized and the place needs a thorough clean of debris, cob webs etc. The shower was full of mould. There is only one bathroom, an en-suite off the master so everyone needs to use that. On the main floor is a powder room so there are 2 toilets. The bunkie is said to be able to sleep 2 people, really? The conditions are very basic. We enjoyed our stay in Sauble Beach but unfortunately this house did not meet our expectations.
We will have our property manager look through the cupboards to make sure all is where it should be between renters. Spiders are the drawback of being on the river, and the webs are quick to reappear when removed. Some owners have their cottages sprayed, but we have chosen to avoid using toxic chemicals for health and environmental reasons. The master bath shower does have mildew under the silicone caulking. We’re rectifying that as we speak. The main floor bathroom does have a bathtub and shower, and the bunkie has 2 mattresses as seen in the photos. We thank the renter for their feedback. We’re always looking for ways to improve.
Nightmare cottage and owners!!! Not safe for children! Had to call the police on owner!
Within minutes of our arrival, our 12 year old daughter got hurt on a rope swing placed less than 2 feet from a rusty metal rod. After 4 hour hospital visit she couldn't swim for 3 days.
Main level bathroom did not work properly for most of the stay. Neighbor came over twice to fix it. Main level bathroom tub was not cleaned and smelled of sewage.
Kitchen sink clogged up on 4th day leaving us no functional sinks. We tried resolving it using plunger. The friendly neighbor came over and after 3 hours of effort could not resolve it. Plumber came the next day at 1.30 pm and needed many hours to fix plumbing. He had to cut out two sections of pipes totaling above 14 ft. We took photos of the pipes and it was obvious they were clogged almost completely over many years. The clean up after this took 3 hours as sewage water got on all surfaces in the kitchen and basement.
Basement kitchen sink was clogged for the entire stay including when we left. Owner suggested using this sink instead of kitchen to wash dishes when kitchen sink became nonfunctional. However we were not able to use it and washed dishes in buckets dumping water outside. Dishwasher was not usable at all and smelled of rotten food. The entrance to master bedroom is from the second bedroom separated by pocket door - no privacy.
The laundry machine was inaccessible as it did not have sufficient clearance to open the dryer door properly.
The stairwell railing is very loose and flimsy; it was not safe to hold especially with an infant in your arms.
On day 5 of our stay after multiple issues with plumbing and sewage clean up, the owner ignored all our time lost due to above-mentioned issues and simply suggested for us to check out early. There was no other accommodation available in Sauble beach due to peak season; therefore we were not able to leave.
On checkout day, owner arrived and continually harassed us. He was ignorant and belligerent until we were forced to contact the police. Once he realized the police were on their way, he backed off and we were finally able to resume packing and finished our check out by 1 pm.
Owners did not reimburse the refundable damage deposit claiming a missing kitchen knife and 3 boats left in water (as we found them when checking in). We submitted formal complaint to Homeaway. I only wish that I could post the pictures of this nightmare for all to see as a picture is worth a thousand words.
This was an amazing location. We enjoyed jumping in the river for refreshing swims and it was great to be able to use the kayaks to head up to the falls and also down to Lake Huron. Although some of the trails close by were washed out, it wasn’t far to drive to some amazing hikes and to either drive or to walk to Sauble Beach. The hike to Sauble Falls was so close. Hostess was very accessible to answer any questions. The cottage was cozy and homey.
The one surprise was that I was assuming the rental would be in Canadian dollars. Instead it was in US funds but this was made clear before the booking was finalized and I am still glad we pursued this venue.
Great place for family gateway..
This place is great for family, we been renting this place for a while and we recommend to all, very clean place, the view is spectacular, boats & kayak are available that’s a bonus close to the Fallsview, privet deck after all we really love it and we do recommend it to all rentals.
