A wonderful and relaxing time, an amazing stay!
We stayed at the Bell Island Cottage during the second week of September. Unfortunately, we arrived at the same time as Hurricane Dorian. From the start John was very accommodating. He contacted us prior to our arrival date and were given the option to either cancel with full reimbursement or to stay at another property which was further inland. He informed us that being without power for few days was a reality. We decided to keep the cottage booking and “enjoy” the storm. We arrived at the cottage several hours early to ensure we were comfortable and settled prior to the Dorian’s landfall. The cottage was prepped for a power outage – full bathtub of water, extra water jugs for the water cooler, candles & flashlights. We lost power around 2 pm that day for the remainder of our stay. With the exception of a hot shower, we did not miss the power.
The remainder of the week was beautiful weather. The area was very quiet with dark evenings to enjoy the fire pit and watch the planes and stars. John checked in with us daily making sure all was ok. Later in our stay we were again offered to relocate to his “country” home which now had power but we chose to stay at our seaside paradise. However, we did use the “country” home for hot showers – the hospitality was amazing! There was a bottle of wine and a warm fire waiting for us and an offer to spend the nights at the country home and the days by the sea at the cottage. John’s mom Jessie even offered to make us a chicken casserole and biscuits, thinking we were tired of barbecued food. (We got every creative with our barbecued meals so this was not a problem)
The cottage, like the pictures on the website, was perfect. Morning coffees and evening drinks on the ocean patio. The sun room was a favorite spot to curl up with a book or an afternoon catnap. Deer were common visitors, especially in the early morning. We even spotted a few seals while sitting on the back porch. So, despite the power issues caused by hurricane Dorian, we had a wonderful and relaxing time, an amazing stay!
404 LaHave Islands Road
From the moment I opened the door I said I wanted to come back. The cottage was very clean and there was a freshly baked loaf of bread waiting. The view is spectacular. We had a fire in the pit most evenings. Kindling was complimentary. Loved the 4 poster bed. Saw fox, deer, Bald Eagle and Monarch butterflies. The wild blueberries were a bonus. We enjoyed morning coffee indoors with a great view of the water. Crescent Beach was a few minutes drive and we walked it almost every day. Next time we’ll rent a kayak. All in all the best cottage we’ve rented. Definitely will come back.
Thank you for your amazing review of my cottage. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to hosting you again.
Great cottage in a gorgeous spot
This was our second stay at this property and all was as expected. It's a cozy, clean, comfortable cottage right on the ocean. There are kayaks available to rent right at the cottage, and we enjoyed being able to kayak right from our front door. (Note: the single kayak was the sit-on-top kind.) There was delicious home-baked bread waiting for us when we arrived and overall, we would definitely return again. A fantastic spot!
THIS IS A SPECIAL PLACE
This was the perfect place to take my mother and sister for a holiday. Everything was exactly as advertised. Beautiful scenery and peaceful. The only hiccup was a wasp nest in the boat - and that was quickly remedied. Hope to enjoy this cottage again someday. Loved it!
VERY PRIVATE, CLEAN WITH BEAUTIFUL VIEW-
Listing was very accurate as described. Property is at the end of a road linking a few islands. Waterfront cottage with stunning views of the inlet. Very quiet and private with bright Adirondack chairs to sit, relax and take in the view early in the morning or at sunset. Row boat allows you to venture out onto the water and explore two uninhabited islands a short distance from shore. Cottage is very clean, bright and well organized, with all necessary kitchen tools to prepare a meal 'in' (as opposed to 'out'). Lots of wildlife along the road including a fox and deer. Can drive directly onto Crescent Beach at low tide and admire the crashing waves from your car. Petite Riviere General store to the West offers basic amenities and locally sourced goods (though pricey compared to a grocery store) and an NSLC outlet with a good selection, just a km down the Petite Riviere Rd to the Painted Saltbox, with bright paintings reflecting typical local houses and objects. A reasonable and lovely drive East to the LaHave Bakery and several artisan shops, just a bit further to Bridgewater, with the main amenities of a larger town (grocery stores, restaurants/diners). Not too far from the Ovens (worth the admission for the spectacular views along the self-guided walking trail). In the other direction, East along the ocean, Liverpool is a beautiful drive with a museum to increase your knowledge of Privateers, there are a number interesting artifacts and an enthusiastic facilitator. Along the 103 (East at the top of Italy Cross), it's just a short drive to 'Ed and the Boys' - a market with fresh local produce, strawberries, ice cream, bakery goods, and outdoor crafts and finds at very good prices. A wonderful week, would definitely recommend this beautiful property and location to 'get away from it all', with easy access to everything you need. Many thanks to our host!
