I have to be honest in my review so here goes: We read thru every review before renting. All the reviews were extremely positive so we booked this. Unfortunately, the bed was an old, hard and very stained mattress on a cheap metal bed frame and was extremely uncomfortable. The couch was very stained and we felt we could not even sit on it let alone use it as a sleeper. The walls in every room were dirty and in dire need of an updated paint job. The ceiling fan in the bedroom was so dirty we were afraid to turn it on. The utility room smelled so bad of mold that we had to keep the door closed because of the odors. The internet kept shutting off for no reason. The washer was convenient but there is no place to dry your clothes if it’s raining and sadly we got a lot of rain during our stay so we had to improvise. The oven did not work. The microwave didn’t work properly and you had to constantly turn the dial to add time to cook or heat food. It was not quiet! Every morning at 4:30 AM someone rolls out trash cans to the street. There was constant loud music and noise from the restaurant next door.
Positives: it could be quite charming if it wasn’t so neglected. The location is perfect as it is so close to Corso Umberto at the Porta Catania and honestly not a far walk to Porta Messina to pick up buses. The host did accommodate and fix things quickly ie; the tv did not work, AC started dripping water everywhere and the hair dryer did not fit into the bath electric outlet and she tried to fix the mold smell but her fix lasted less than a day. The market is just steps away and was very convenient. The host’s restaurant next door does serve authentic Sicilian cuisine and it was delicious.
Overall I am happy for my two weeks in beautiful Sicily. The apartment makes a good base to be able to explore the entire region. The host’s rep arranged for a car to take us to the airport and that was extremely helpful! . I would have put up with all of the minor issues if the bed was decent so it made it a tough stay for us.
