Perfect for our visit
Glenville Cottage was perfect for our stay in Cape Breton. The house was immaculate and cozy, and everything we needed was there. The fall colours were spectacular, and the weather was equally dramatic! We enjoyed a hike in the hills nearby, the pub at the Distillery, and a beautiful drive up the coast to Cheticamp. I look forward to returning. Thank you so much Brenna and Brendon!
Thank you so much Christine. We look forward to having you back anytime!
The property and main living space of the home was great. However the shower is terrible. We were four adults, including two tall men (who hit their head daily) and each of us complained about it. Unfortunately we would not recommend renting this property because of it.
We appreciate your review and understand your feelings. It’s unfortunate that you had an issue with the shower. We are also two tall people, one of us being 6’4”. Granted, we’ve used the shower many times and are used to it, but we have never hit our heads. Something you may not have realized is that the shower head also comes off the wall and can be handheld, which can help with navigating the slanted roof in the shower. It’s also very helpful for showering children, especially after the beach. As a bit of backstory, the house was built in 1901, before there was indoor plumbing. The bathroom was added to the home much later, and there is now a jacuzzi bathtub and a shower. It’s not ideal for everyone, but there are often trade-offs necessary with century-old character homes such as Glenville Cottage.
We loved our stay, very quaint, homey, and private. We had every thing we needed.
Thank you for your review Cliff. We're so happy you enjoyed your stay.
An unexpected treasure
We absolutely loved the upgraded cottage ambience in a pastoral setting. We had everything we needed and more. We were within a short drive to a variety of different hikes which included the coastal hikes around Mabou to the Skyline trail on the Cabot trail.
We enjoyed the cuisine and of course music at the local pubs. The cottage is situated basically next door to North America’s first single malt whisky distillery. All in all our stay was a delightful experience.
Brenda, it sounds like you had a delightful vacation. Thank you for your review and sharing about your stay and experience.
Perfect summer getaway
3 city gals who love the beach rented the Glenville cottage for a few nights. We were not disappointed! What a beautiful setting! The cottage was a dream... very clean, nicely decorated, and had everything we needed. We immediately felt very comfortable and relaxed. We also loved the location and visited three different beaches during our stay: Inverness, Mabou and Port Hood. The blankets for nighttime deck hangs, and fun selection of DVD's were a nice bonus! Brenna very kindly supplied a detailed list of things to do and see around the area. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and family. Thank you Brenna and Brandon!
A girlfriends’ trip + Cape Breton beaches + Glenville Cottage sounds like a great combo! We’re so happy you had an enjoyable time at Glenville Cottage, the local beaches and surrounding area. The weather was incredible during your stay - 3 beaches over 3 days is impressive. Thank you for your compliments about the decor and cleanliness of the cottage, as well as how comfortable you felt during your stay. We hope our guests will enjoy a home away from home feeling at Glenville Cottage. We look forward to hosting you again or any family and friends that you recommend.
Perfect home base to explore Cape Breton
Travelled to Cape Breton for the first time with 4 children. It was a fantastic stay. Location wise, the cottage is equally close to Inverness and Mabou, so good access to groceries, liquor store, hiking (Mabou Highlands, wow!) and nice beaches (also incredible golf if that's your thing). Also very close to the Glenora Distillery where you can get some awesome single malt whiskey. Proximity to the highway gets you to Baddeck and Cheticamp in under an hour, and it's a great starting point to explore the Cabot Trail. The cottage itself was immaculately clean, with a fully equipped kitchen, bbq, laundry and dryer (and clothesline!). The beds were comfy and we had plenty of space. It was really a home away from home. My wife and I are big fans of craft beer so we were pleasantly surprised to find a jug of Big Spruce (local beer) waiting in the fridge when we got there (of course we visited there as well (not to be missed).
Brandon and Brenna have created a beautiful place to hang your hat and also enjoy your downtime while you explore one of Canada's most incredible places.
Thank you so much for your review Chris. We loved having your family stay at Glenville Cottage. We find that families really enjoy the cottage and area. Our daughter and her cousins certainly love their time in Glenville.
Thank you as well for the craft beer you left for us to try. We also love trying new beer from other places.
We look forward to having you back for your next vacation.
