This is a great spot. It was exactly what we were looking for - a remote getaway with an incredible view. When we arrived, the place was spotless. Bedrooms were comfortable, bathroom was clean, and the kitchen was stocked with what we needed. The beach is a small and rocky with clear water.
A trail leads down to it and there is a bit of a scramble to get down to it - but the kids had fun exploring - canoeing around the bay and exploring. Very quiet and peaceful. There are some great things to do in a twenty minute drive of the place. Be sure to stock up on groceries as directed and you will need to bring your own water. All in all - we were very pleased with the place.
Beautiful and private
The house was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Located with a short walk to the beach and a beautiful ocean view. Very isolated, which means lots of privacy.
If you want a quiet holiday
We needed additional directions to the house (Google maps pointed us to the wrong place) -- just continue up that last bit of dirt road that looks about to be overgrown by shrubs. Thanks to T-L, we got there. This would not have been an easy place to find after sunset. (Note to Michael and Margaret: shrubs around house number at that last turn going into the drive need trimming -- the number is nearly invisible.)
Very quiet location, with fantastic views over the water towards the west and southwest, from the main room inside, or from the deck (if you can stand the bugs). A couple of bald eagles flew past occasionally. Spectacular sunsets most nights. But also spectacular fog. Great to watch it roll in from the southwest. House is snug in a storm, and the wood-burning stove works well after a bit of priming (gather kindling on your walks -- you'll need lots).
Good washer/dryer and kitchen with essentials, but the only food items in situ were salt, pepper, a bit of sunflower oil, and coffee/tea. Do your shopping on the way in.
Nearest grocery stores = 30 minutes to east, 40 minutes to west, and both close by 6 pm most days. Same for gas/fuel, so be prepared.
No easy access to water within walking distance except from rocky shoreline, and that's a 10 minute walk away. But 4 fabulous beaches within an hour's drive in two directions, so it's easy to plan a day (or hour) at the beach.
95% of books in the house are in German, so be prepared. However, lots of fliers & maps for things to do in the area. Local historical museums/houses are generally free and always full of interesting photos and old items.
Would I go back? Definitely. We stayed a month, and it wasn't long enough.
The house was clean and very comfortable. Slept very well. Facilities complete.
We loved the view of the harbour across from the cabin. The sunset was magnificent. We walked down to waters edge, but didn't go down onto shore. It was a little steep and Rocky. We appreciate the extra effort put forth in honor of our 40th wedding anniversary. The wine was very good. Directions to get there and into cabin very detailed. Especially instructions on stocking
up on food and supplies. The privacy and quietness is just what we were looking for. We especially liked the music that was available. Would like to get it at home. It was wonderful to have wifyi. If we would have had more time my husband would have loved to tried fishing. All in all would return if we get the chance, but probably not in the cards.
As advertised. Amazing Views
If you're looking for a remote & beautiful setting, this is it! There is not much around so bring in your own supplies, but once you are here, you won't want to leave anyway.
I am very disappointed at the deceptive advertising of the property.
The pictures in the VRBO add was very deceptive. There was no dock and boat near the property, the access to the water was difficult for the canoe and very difficult for launching which was about a 500 meter walk and then to carry it back up the hill back to the cottage. There was no sandy beach near by as was depicted in the photos of the VRBO ad. When we got to the cottage there was an overwhelming odor of mold and we couldn't use the downstairs at all. The deck was not as advertised with rotting furniture and broken umbrella, not what the picture showed.Directions to the cottage were difficult and we had to ask some locals as to where the cottage address was. To any other people who are thinking of renting this unit, be careful with the amount that you will be charged. The add was in US dollars and in my head I did the conversion into Canadian currency. my mistake was looking at the amount which I thought it said a certain amount in US dollars but it was Euros. So 4 days cost us Much more than I thought it was worth in Canadian currency. My over site but still deceptive advertising in US dollars and the charging in Euros for a Canadian property.
There was other issues there but I think that I have made my point that I was dissapointed and will not be coming back to rent from VRBO.
The only up side was that the owners hired a local lady which was very pleasant and she had the place nice and clean. The above mentioned issues were out of her control.
