Perfect spot for Family vacation
We took both sets of our parents plus our eldest daughter for our youngest daughter’s graduation from Acadia. We made it a family vacation and stayed a week. There is lots to do in the area, especially if like wine and hiking. We rented bikes in Wolfville and travelled the old rail bed stopping at Mercator’s winery. The Tide House was a perfect spot for all of us. The layout is well thought out. 2 bedrooms up stairs and two down with a bathroom on each floor. It’s a split level so there are approx. 6 steps up or down when you enter from the mud room. The cottage has everything you need plus some. A lot of their appliances and pots/pans are nicer than mine. My daughter wanted to move in! The house is very spacious yet cozy, which we really appreciated since our weather was quite chilly at times. We had zero problems while we were there. Rachel, our greeter, was there when we arrived and when we left. She is a lovely lady and it was a real personal touch to be greeted. We hope to come back sometime in warmer weather.
Tranquility on the Minas Basin
A great property with a comfortable cottage Diner on the deck, watching bald eagles from the dock in the am to stary nights at the camp fire. Lots to do in the surrounding area from Scott’s Bay and Cape split to Halls Harbour or walking the dyke lands We had a great stay
Lovely, peaceful house with all the amenities you'd need.
Thank you for sharing Tide House with us. The property is comfortable, clean and well appointed, with everything needed for a family holiday. The garden was welcoming and the 2 decking areas great. We enjoyed having our breakfast coffee at the bottom decking overlooking the Minas Basin, watching the wildlife (especially the Bald Eagles and the humming birds). We also enjoyed evenings by the firepit.
It is well positioned for exploring the Annapolis Valley, down to the South Shore (Halifax, Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg) and was less than 2 hours to Kejimkujik National Park - well worth a visit. Don't forget to go whale watching - went with Brier Island Whale and Seabird Cruises and had a stunning display of humpback whales. And for the more adventurous try Tidal Bore Rafting on the Shubenacadie River - a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
This was our first visit to Nova Scotia - hopefully not our last. The people are very friendly and welcoming.
Thanks also to Anne Finley, our Greeter. Friendly, helpful and informative.
A great base for a brilliant holiday.
Thank you for your great review and sharing some new places to visit; our guests really appreciate it! Agreed, it's wonderful to watch our local family of bald eagles from the dock, they are so majestic and huge. The hummingbirds love the honeysuckle bush on the back deck! Our Greeter is fantastic, she knows so much about the area. We hope to welcome you and your family back to Tide House the next time you visit the Valley.
Wonderful cottage located in the Annapolis Valley. This cottage is conveniently located within distance of everything one could want to do (vineyards, distilleries, farmers markets, etc). This is all secondary to having the perfect little cottage on the Bay. Cottage was perfect and all amenities provided were sufficient for a much needed vacation. Neighbors were extremely pleasant and welcoming. Thank you Anne for the opportunity to share your house with us.
We had a great time at the Tide House!
We loved our stay at the Tide House. We arrived at the house very late on our arrival day, so waking up in the morning was such a surprise to see right out the windows such a remarkable view of water. The house was great, everything we could have asked for and more. The kitchen was well stocked with all the pots, pans, dishes, etc that we needed. The beds and pillows were very comfortable (we had the best sleep at this house due to those beds/pillows), and the rooms were decorated so well. We didn’t use the TV, but I’m sure younger kids would have liked it. My older kids would have loved having internet. We were greeted by Anne (not the owner) who gave us a great history lesson of the area, as well as wonderful suggestions of what to do and see. She truly made herself available to us for anything we needed.
Unfortunately, we were only at the house for 3 full days. I’d love to stay here a full week and see more of the area. We were able to see Hall’s Harbor, where we took pictures at 3 different times during the day as the tide was completely out to the last picture of the boats (who were on dry land in the first picture) were floating even with the docks. What an amazing experience to see such movement and power from the sea.
The "Look Off" on Scotts Bay Road in Canning gives you a wonderful view of the Annapolis Valley, very beautiful. Right across the street from the Look Off is a little hole in the wall ice cream shop, a must! They don’t skimp on the ice cream that’s for sure!
The Chowder at the Port restaurant, was very yummy as were the scallops!
We had a fun time wine tasting at Planters Ridge, very friendly people and the deck there gave a very nice view. We brought home a couple of bottles of wine from there.
Fun times playing cards at night around the kitchen table with the family, making lot of memories together!
I'd recommend this house to anyone traveling in this area. Anne was very friendly and easy to work with. Thank you for sharing your home Anne.

Thanks so much for the great review, it was a pleasure having you and your family stay at Tide House! It's a great place to relax, spend quality time together and make new memories! Next time you visit we will have internet (coming next spring!) so you should plan to stay for a week!
You'll have a great time staying here!
The house is very comfortable with more space than it looks from the outside. The bedrooms are cute and nicely decorated. Living room and kitchen look out onto the bay with a gorgeous view. Kitchen is well stocked with good quality items and everything has been nicely thought out for the convenience of guests. The house has a lot of space to spread out with the living room upstairs and a large basement with TV and games downstairs. House was spic and span for our arrival.
The hosts are great. Messaging before the rental period was timely and informative. The greeter met us the morning after we arrived to tell us about the house and give suggestions on what to do. She was available via text anytime and very responsive.
The house location is fantastic. It feels far removed from civilization, but it's a short drive to all the conveniences you need, and a good base for exploring further afield. The south coast, e.g. Lunenburg, is 1.5 hrs away. The north coast, e.g. Hall's Harbor, is around 1/2 hr.
For eating out, we liked Vicki's Restaurant in Coldbrook for their "haddie bits". We also liked Soon Han Sushi in New Minas for a change of pace. La Torta in Wolfville has good pizza. For eating in, the butcher in Canning has good meat, and you can otherwise find anything you need at the supermarkets in New Minas, or more local outlets such as Hennigar's, which also has great ice cream.
We loved our stay here and whenever we're in this neighborhood again, we'll be sure to return.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and thorough review! It means so much for future guests. We are so happy that you loved our house and the Annapolis Valley, there's so much to offer! It seems that you've found some new restaurant favourites that our guests need to try, thanks for that! We look forward to hosting you and your family in the future.
