This is a lovely, well equipped cottage on the Cabot Trail, a short drive from Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and close to North Sydney as well. The owners Nick and Judy are very friendly and helpful.
It's a quiet location with a beautiful dark sky at night. We looked up at the stars and the Milky Way and watched the blinking lights of the Europe-bound jets pass over in a parade.
We enjoyed our stay very much!
A great beautiful, quiet place to stay.
We loved this location. We arrived late at night after midnight and Nick went out of his way to go to the bottom of the driveway and flash his lights. We loved the 4 seasons porch in the mornings sitting out there with our coffee and books. We flew and did some hiking so had to have lots of gear. It was so helpful with all the amenities that we needed there and available to us. We would definitely stay here again if we get back to Cape Breton. Thanks Nick and Judy.
Welcoming, comfortable, and tasteful holiday home
Wonderful in every way! Nick welcomed us (including a helpful pre-arrival email) and gave us a tour, then left us in privacy for our 5 night stay with 5 adults. A fresh loaf of bread and a pack of oatcakes were waiting for us. Plenty of local information available.
The kitchen is fully equipped and well organized, including KitchenAid cookware and all essential utensils. The table comfortably seats 6. There are multiple gathering areas (screen porch, living room, front porch) plus good seating in the bedrooms. Bathrooms have nice lnens and plentiful towel racks. Beds are comfortable. Furnishings are tasteful and include local crafts. Library and board games looked great though we were too busy to use them. WiFi worked well. We didn't try the large screen TV.
It was unusually warm during our stay, but 2 stand fans moved air well. The ocean can be heard as you fall asleep. Stargazing was amazing during the August meteor shower.
The location is central to Cape Breton attractions, right on the Cabot trail. Our party all agreed this stay was the highlight of our trip.
roomy, comfortable rental with a rustic feel
Nick is a good communicator and easy to deal with. He sent us a detailed description of the road to follow to his place in Breton Cove, and when we arrived, he was waiting for us at the end of the driveway and accompanied us to the house to give us a tour and to answer any questions we might have. He let us know that he'd be available if we needed him, but we didn't and we didn't see him the 6 days we were there. The location is very private and there is no outside noise. The house is comfortable and well appointed, with a rustic feel to it. The kitchen has absolutely everything you need, and is exceptionally clean, the pots and pans are of excellent quality, and there are lots of plates, cups, glasses, etc. We did quite a bit of cooking, but there are also take-outs in the vicinity including a good pizza place and the General store, which sells great lobster and crab sandwiches (Seagull in Ingonish has delicious lobster rolls and Charlene's is worth going out of your way for, just for the seafood chowder). The house is roomy and has a good deal of natural light. Everything worked without a hitch, TV, lights, shower, dishwasher, washer/dryer. Nick left lots of pamphlets and a map of the area, and a few books on things to do in Cape Breton. We enjoy hiking and found interesting trails every day, our favourite being the Franey trail, which has stunning views from the peak. We highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants to spend time in the area.
Well equipped home - Amazing location and fantastic hospitality!
We were very easily able to feel at home at Nick and Judy's home in Breton Cove. Layout of house is very welcoming and all rooms were very comfortable to hang out in. Home was exactly as advertised and had all the amenities one could desire. Kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked with paper goods, soaps, saran, etc. Beach chairs and towels also in house for use. Home very quiet and secluded with amazing views from two of the upper bedrooms. Our stay was during a very hot and humid spell but Nick was able to get some extra fans to help make us more comfortable. Amazing location and fantastic hospitality! Few things of note 1) Wifi was slow but able to support watching Netflix and email, weather checks - just for those of you traveling with children with devices - download lots in advance, 2) Bedrooms shades in windows do not block light terribly well - if you like to sleep in a very dark room I'd recommend bringing a sleep mask, 3) Cell reception was good in the house which was nice as 1 minute down the road there is no reception.
All the comforts of home
Extremely well appointed, clean and comfortable home along the Cabot Trail. Friendly hosts have thought of everything from kitchen appliances and utensils to beach towels. Nick met us at the end of the road and greeted us with a fresh loaf of bread and oatcakes. Great access to whale watching, hiking, and beaches on the east coast of Cape Breton, but a bit of a drive from Mabou, Cheticamp, and west coast activities. It was a great place for our family of four during our week in Cape Breton.
