Perfect anniversary retreat
My husband and I had the opportunity to celebrate our first wedding anniversary at the Getaway Cottage in Prospect Village - and we hope to return again next year!
The cottage was very clean, cosy and quiet, and had everything we needed onsite. We took advantage of the wood-stove in the evenings and spent much of our time on the dock enjoying the beautiful fall scenery.
The cottage is a great little place for a couple to enjoy their honeymoon or anniversary. We are so very pleased to be a part of life's happy times, here on Prospect Bay.
If you are looking for for a quiet, quant little cottage experience, this is it. The location is perfectly in the middle of many desirable attractions. Sitting in the sun on the water started each day with relaxation. Lovely place.
Perfect little cottage for our family of four. Enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle of a city. Relaxing and quiet. We fished off the dock for mackerel. Had a bonfire several times. Loved the view from the dock. Just right for us.
Six Nights At Prospect Bay
We stayed for six night at the cottage starting July 30th,, my self, my wife and two granddaughters. We arrived 6:30pm on Sunday night and the with owner Janice instructions and the GPS we had no problem finding the cottage. The first thing you will notice is the parking, your parking spot is at top of large very private lot which is great, what isn't so great is the three set of stairs and walks ways to get down to the cottage which is in the centre of the lot. The unloading and loading of a family of four was not much fun with the stairs involved. This by far is my only major criticism of the cottage, anyone with mobility issues should book elsewhere. I need a knee replacement so the stairs were a challenge and the sloped property was an issue for me the entire week even with a knee brace and a cane. The cottage is large with a small cubby hole bedroom with bunk beds, the other two bedrooms were cottage size bedrooms. The water pressure is not the greatest even by cottage standards but overall the only other complaint would be no SAT TV and when you did watch the DVD an audio buzz every few seconds but we didn't rent a cottage to watch TV although I did miss watching the nightly news. They had a nice fire pit and I bought firewood as the wood they had was punky. The view from dock was amazing and the kids fished and even swam in the ocean. Overall we had a great time and used the cottage as a base for our daily trips and had a fire every night and my morning coffee on the dock every day. The girls loved when the tide was out and explored the shoreline. A general store was a 2 minute drive away that sold liquor and beer and the drive into a grocery store in Halifax was about 20 minutes away. The cottage was close to Peggy's Cove as well. The owner Janice addressed the few issues we had and overall we had a Great Time. Just make sure you have good knees and the cottage should be good for you.
Beautiful Picture Perfect Hideaway!
Had everything we needed with a beautiful
View. Great location and just a car ride away from major tourist attractions!!
Rustic cabin in a great location
We arrived at the cabin tired and stressed after a long drive through heavy rain. The rain had lightened to a drizzle but everything was dreary. Who would have thought we would need a fire to warm up at the end of June. The next morning we woke up to thick fog. It wasn't until mid morning when the fog lifted that we were able to see the beauty of the location. The next three days were just gorgeous. The views from the yard and deck were just as pictured.
This cabin is very rustic but has everything you need. The kitchen had everything you needed including some spices. Towels and linens were provided. Rooms were tiny but comfortable.
It has a TV and DVD player but the DVD player didn't work and the cable box had no wires connected. That wasn't a problem though as we didn't come to Halifax to watch TV. Internet was very good and fast, even down at the dock so we could have watched Netflix if we had wanted.
The best part about the cabin is the location. It is about 20 minutes to Halifax and all that Halifax has to offer. It is also about 20 minutes to Peggy's Cove. There is a little store and restaurant a short distance down the road that you can get things you forgotten (including beer).
Parking is up by the road and there are several steps down to the cabin. There are hand rails and it is well lit but if you had mobility issues it could be a problem. My wife and I both have bad knees so we limited our going up and down the steps unless we really needed too.
Janice was nice to deal with. She answered her emails promptly. We didn't get to meet her but Dan came to collect the rest of our payment and seemed quite nice, telling us about local trails we might want to check out.
