I had my reservations about this house! This house was built in the late 1800's by a sea captain. The people we purchased the home from had owned it since the mid 50's and made very little improvements over the years. Let's just say it was a true 'fixer upper' and if my husband wasn't a General Contractor I would have never agreed to the purchase of this house.
It took over a year to obtain approval from the Environmental Protection Agency to start renovations. This meant the house needed to remain true to the original footprint. It was very challenging to add modern day amenities within the existing layout. Meanwhile the house needed to be raised and moved so the existing basement could be filled in and a slab poured for the renovated house to sit. Overall, it was a daunting and amazing process! The renovations were finally completed in the spring of 2012 and we couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. This very old and neglected house had come to life again!
