We'd Come Back in a Heartbeat!
It was so hard to leave this beautiful house!
The rental is even better than described, and the quiet cove it sits on is lovely at any time of the day, including when it's shrouded in fog or lit up by a full moon, both of which we experienced during our stay.
The iconic lighthouse in Peggy's Cove is worth the short drive, particularly for sunrises and sunsets, and reasonably priced restaurants are nearby if you don't feel like cooking at home. The kitchen is a bit small compared to what many are used to, but it's manageable and well supplied with dishes, silver, glassware, and pots and pans. Halifax to the east and Mahone Bay/Lunenburg to the west are both very easy (and scenic) day trips.
Tom, the caretaker, is friendly and a wealth of great information, and Josephine (the owner) also provides great communications.
We highly recommend this rental, and hope to stay here again!
Incredibly nice accommodations fully in the spirit of the area!
We were very sad when our time visiting Indian Harbour came to an end and would definitely book this house when we can again return to the area. The owners have been careful to add the modern conveniences we all expect to a 180+ year old fisherman’s house in such a way that the feel of antiquity isn’t lost at all while being exceptionally comfortable. The location on one of the many small harbors in the area let’s you listen to the water lapping at be in the spirit of the area while spending time with family or friends. The location is great - near many of the local walks and sights while venturing further afield to Lunenburg and Halifax will allow scenic drives through the area.
Saving the best for last, Tom and Donna, who manage the property from their art gallery just across Peggy’s Cove Road, are wonderful welcoming sources of local knowledge so visiting their gallery and learning from them is a highly enjoyable must!
We can’t imagine how anyone interested in the incredible history of the area could do better than staying in the restored fisherman’s home.
