A very comfortable, clean property with a great view of the bay. It was ideally located between Digby and Yarmouth making day trip explorations easy. The home has everything you need (dishes, utensils, soap, shampoo, etc). Eric provided a loaf of local bread and Gooseberry jam that were delicious. Fast internet access was convenient for researching things to do. La Cuisine Robicheau is two doors down and provided a variety of delicious dishes. We tried the Seafood Chowder and Scallops. Both were fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again.
Erik, I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay here in Saulnierville and that you enjoyed our favourite restaurant La Cuisine Robucheau. We would love to host you again should you return to our beautiful part of Nova Scotia. Eric & Bruce
A quaint and charming older home with magnificent views of the ocean. There were 4 of us and there was more than ample room for everyone to do his or her own thing. The property was as advertised and Eric had left a welcoming gift for us as well.During our stay we did not meet Eric but I got an email every day from him making sure all was well. Eric was a wealth of information about the area and even made dinner reservations for us at one of the local restaurants. If your travels include this part of Nova Scotia I would highly recommend this rental and would not hesitate to rent this place again if we were in the area. Thank you Eric and Bruce for a wonderful stay at your place.
Scott & Cindy
Scott and Cindy we thank you both for your kind review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay in this wonderful part of Nova Scotia. We hope that we have the pleasure of hosting you on your next trip to Nova Scotia.
What a thoroughly enjoyable week. The house and grounds were more than we expected more than enough room for the four of us. The warm and comfortable atmosphere made us feel that we had been coming here for years. Walking the eclectic grounds was a joy of discovery and wonderment. Daily walks to beach enabled us to enjoy the sounds and smells of nature near the ocean. This was an exceptional value and the location allowed us to explore to our hearts content and still be home in time to relax in the well-appointed sitting room or stretched out in bed after a day chasing whales. Eric and Bruce were hosts extraordinary. Their fun and exuberance was infectious and they helped us out by giving us hints about the restaurant (deserves its own 5 stars) just two doors up the road, local Acadian celebrations and recommendations on best beaches. Our week was far too short but the stay will lives on in our dreams forever.
It was a pleasure hosting Michael and Family. We really appreciate all your complimentary comments and we hope to host you again soon in this special part of Nova Scotia.
Perfect Place to Escape Heat and Stress!
We wanted a place to stay in Nova Scotia that was clean, inexpensive, and would give us a chance to unplug from our hectic lives and just relax with nature. Eric and Bruce's house gave us so much more than that! The house itself, though small, is clean, well-furnished, and thoughtfully arranged with little touches (lovely soaps, a fabulous tub, mowed grass for us to walk barefoot down to the beach...) to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
You will definitely feel remote. It takes a car ride and ferry to get pretty much anywhere touristy. And we did that a couple of times. Prince Edward Island was a fun excursion (especially for Ann of Green Gables aficionados) and ferry rides are always fun. There were local musicians (especially fiddlers) entertaining passengers on every trip.
But mostly we stayed near the house and I'm excited to say we accomplished our goal of doing a whole bunch of nothing! We watched the sunset every evening, even from the kitchen window. We wandered the beach which lies just at the end of the property. This is not a "sun bathing" beach, it's one made for exploring and contemplating. Every time we went down, it was a new and remarkable landscape of rocks and beautiful sand patterns. The tide was dramatic. We had our dog with us and he was free to frolic among the rocks and waves, so much so that we felt he was wet the entire three we were there!
The house is in Saugnerville, a small fishing town that isn't trying to be anything else. (The tire store also sells fresh fish.) The people are incredibly nice. Kind in fact. The wonderful restaurant two doors down from the house has local musicians playing every Thursday and we quickly became "regulars," stomping our feet to Acadian music as we feasted on scallops.
Eric and Bruce are always available, But we really didn't need much from them. We were happy to walk the beach, read under a tree, explore the ancient bones hidden among the flowers, and lay in the grass late at night looking up at a spectacular night sky. You've never seen the moonlight shine across still black water like what we saw there. And I have a little blue rock sitting on my desk in front of me to remind me of how peaceful I felt when we left.
Bruce, Beyhan thank you both so very much for your kind words. We do hope that you will return to our beautiful Nova Scotia soon.
