Wells, Maine is a beautiful town with a lot of history. It's the third oldest town in Maine -established in 1641. Aside from its beautiful and family-friendly beaches, Wells is also a great place to visit for nature lovers.
Besides the beach - the most popular attraction is The Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farms. An area of 2,250 acres of salt marsh, freshwater wetlands, beach, dune, forest and field are protected by the Reserve. Open everyday from 7 AM to sunset, there are seven miles of trails which cross woodlands, wetlands, grasslands, salt marsh and sand beach.
The next most popular attraction is the Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge. It was established to protect valuable salt marshes and estuaries for migratory birds. There is a one-mile trail which is great for kids along the salt marsh. The back side of the house has views of the tidal estuary.
Also, don't forget that Wells is the antique store capital of Maine. It possesses 25 antique shops all along or very close to Route 1.
